Student Ministries
The teenage years can feel like navigating a storm. With school, sports, family life, and the pressures of growing up, students often find themselves overwhelmed. The Harbor exists to be a place of refuge and rest, where students can meet Jesus, who provides peace and calm in life’s storms (Matthew 11:28-30, Luke 8:22-25). Here, we help students develop a Christ Centered faith, find belonging in a Joy Filled Community, and live out their faith through Love Compelled Service.
At The Harbor, students are equipped to build a foundational faith that lasts. We encourage them to discover their identity in Christ and navigate the journey ahead, supported by a strong community of peers and mentors. Our goal is to cultivate hearts that love God, love others, and love themselves, grounded in the teachings of Jesus.
What to Expect
-
Our Students
You’ll find a welcoming, laid-back community of students eager to connect with you! At The Harbor, we come together from various local areas including Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Pleasant Hill, and even Concord/Clayton, ranging from 6th to 12th grade. Together, we seek to create a Joy Filled Community where everyone feels valued and supported, no matter where they are on their faith journey.
-
Our Leaders
Led by Rachel Ingram and Matt Doherty, The Harbor’s leadership team is made up of adults, parents, college students, and student leaders. All of our leaders are trained to listen, learn, and love our students, creating a safe and nurturing environment where trust and openness thrive. Every leader follows WCPC’s Child Protection Program to ensure the safety and well-being of each student.
-
Our Program
We divide our ministry into two categories: Special Events and Programs. Special Events, such as service opportunities, outdoor adventures, and summer/winter camps, are designed to provide memorable, life-shaping experiences. Through these activities, students have the chance to engage in Love-Compelled Service to others, as well as develop deep friendships. Special Events typically happen on a monthly basis, often during regular youth group times. Our weekly programs meet regularly, with Middle School gathering on Wednesdays from 7-8:30PM for Middle School, and High School on Thursdays from 7-9PM for High School. We also gather together on Sundays during Middle Hour from 10-10:50AM.
-
Our Vision
The Harbor exists as a safe space where students can learn to love God, love others, and love ourselves. We believe a successful student ministry is one where students feel genuinely loved, understood, and empowered to live out their faith. By fostering a culture of openness, honesty, and trust, we create an environment where students can ask hard questions, explore their faith, and grow in a Joy-Filled Community rooted in love and support.

Middle School
We love our Middle School students and would love the chance to meet yours! At The Harbor, we create a space where students can explore faith, build friendships, and have fun in a welcoming and engaging environment. Through games, shared experiences, and intentional teaching, we encourage students to ask big questions, think critically about faith and life, and grow together in meaningful ways.
Our goal is to help students discover what it means to follow Jesus in their daily lives. We aren’t afraid to tackle tough topics—learning about God, the Bible, and our own doubts and questions—because we believe that faith grows through honest exploration. We also provide opportunities to serve within the church and in the community, helping students experience the joy of living out their faith in tangible ways.
Come join us—we can’t wait to welcome you!

High School
Our High School Ministry aims to build lifelong disciples who develop authentic friendships and are equipped to face the challenges of high school. This includes tackling questions of personal identity, cultural pressures, doubts, and calling. We strive to make The Harbor a place where students can explore these questions in a safe, supportive environment while having a ton of fun along the way. Through Bible study, prayer, and Christ-Centered Worship, we help students navigate their faith journey.
We also encourage high school students to actively participate in Love-Compelled Service, both within the church and the local community. Through these opportunities, students learn to live out their faith in tangible ways.

FAQ
Not at all! While we regularly talk about Jesus and are Christians ourselves, we welcome students from all backgrounds and belief systems. We value honesty and encourage students to share their thoughts and questions as they explore faith in their own way.
Students will need a current Student Participation Form in order to join us for our events and programs. We won’t turn anyone away at the door, but this form helps us provide the best care.
We stay connected with parents and students through a Parent Newsletter, our Instagram page, and our “Remind” text message threads. To get added to these communications, email Matt or Rachel.
Absolutely! We love meeting new students and encourage them to bring friends to any of our events or programs. Our door is always open to students from all walks of life.
Our name “The Harbor” was born through collaboration with our students. We wanted a name that reflected the heart of our ministry—a safe place of refuge in life’s storms, and a space where students are equipped for the journey ahead. We became “The Harbor” in the summer of 2019, and we hope to welcome your student into our community soon!

Co-Director of Student Ministries
“I love what I get to do! It’s amazing what we can learn when we take the time to listen and get to know our students. Where else could you go from talking about Minecraft to discussing Justice in the Bible?”

Rachel Ingram
Co-Director of Student Ministries
“I am so lucky to be a part of The Harbor. My favorite part is engaging with students on how we live out our mission statement of loving God, loving others and ourselves. Everyday is different in student ministry—and I absolutely love it!”
