Matthew 6:19 mentions a treasure being destroyed by rust. Concord realized that if the branding iron had really belonged to Wild Bob McGraw it would have been rusty. The shed, with its leaky roof and walls, would have given the branding iron no protection from the weather. Iron, in particular, rusts when it is exposed to moisture and air. Mr. Cunningham did more investigating and discovered that Mr. DeLaney had devised the branding iron scam to bring more guests to his ranch. The newspaper decided to make the attempted scam a front page story, and Mr. DeLaney had fewer guests than ever.
