The Sap Whapper

The Solution (hover over the black below to see the solution)

Psalm 42:7 mentions the noise of a waterfall. Before Mr. Lock played the tape, he claimed that the recording was made at the base of the thirty foot-high Grand Pine River Falls. Concord realized that if Mr. Lock was next to the waterfall, the waterfall’s roar should have been rather loud on tape. But right after Mr. Lock silenced his wife on the tape, and right before the bird song was heard, the recording was silent The lack of waterfall noise meant that Mr. Lock’s tape was fake. Fortunately, Mr. Cunningham was able to catch President Birk right before the prize check was handed to Mr. Lock. The only birds Mr. Lock heard that night were fellow jailbirds.
