New Year, Same Me?
Each January, we get to ask the question: New Year, Same Me? Or in other words, is this new year an opportunity to change? Could this be the year I: Shift the way I manage time or money? Care for myself differently? Mend broken relationships?
New Year’s resolutions actually share some of the core beliefs we hold as Christians. The desire for change recognizes that we are not yet the people we were meant to be; while the goal to change believes that transformation is possible.
But how do we know who we are supposed to be? There is no shortage of those claiming to have the answer. Every day we are showered with images showing the life someone else thinks we should have. Their vision for us fills commercials, magazines, media, and social feeds.
In the midst of the noise, we believe the loudest voice should be the voice of the One who made us. We want our imperfections to be revealed by the One who is perfect. And our vision of transformation to be formed by the One who’s image we are made to reflect. Or, in the spirit of New Year’s, we want our resolutions rooted in the person of Jesus.
Over the next three weeks, in our series New Year, Same Me?, we will look to the book of Proverbs, seeking God’s wisdom as we consider what it might look like for 2022 to be a year of transformation.
During this short series, we will focus in on three topics:
- Checkbooks and Calendars: December 26th
- Eating and Exercising: January 2nd
- Family and Friends: January 9th
Our hope and expectation is that the Spirit of God can use the Word of God to shape us more and more into the image of God. And it is our prayer that we will experience this formation together in community as a church during this series.
Happy New Year!
